About the Assessment Process
At The PsychologySmith, ADHD assessments are tailored to each individual and carried out with care, thoroughness, and attention to detail. The process follows the professional standards of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), in line with NHS guidance.
The assessment aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of your experiences, identify areas of strength and difficulty, and offer meaningful insights to guide next steps.
The assessment process includes:
1. Pre-Assessment Screening Session (50 minutes)
This initial screening helps determine whether a full ADHD assessment is appropriate and offers a preliminary overview of ADHD-related traits or challenges.
What to expect:
The screening ensures that sufficient information is gathered to decide whether a full diagnostic assessment is warranted and to tailor the process to your needs.
Attending a screening session does not guarantee an ADHD diagnosis; if ADHD appears unlikely, you may be guided toward alternative forms of support.
2. ADHD Assessment (up to 3 hours)
If a full assessment is indicated, the process involves a detailed clinical evaluation using recognised tools and structured interviews.
This includes:
3. After the Assessment
The PsychologySmith provides psychological assessments and formal diagnoses only and does not prescribe medication.
If ADHD is diagnosed and you wish to explore medication privately, you may be referred or signposted to independent prescribers who provide this service. These professionals operate separately from The PsychologySmith and charge their own fees. The decision to pursue medication remains entirely your choice.
