"I sought out therapy with what I thought was a simple goal: to learn how to have a loving relationship with difficult parents. Today, I am pleased to say that our relationship has never been better. However, the journey to this point was far from simple and would not have been possible without Jonell’s guidance.
Jonell has a gentle but purposeful way of leading a discussion: she creates a safe atmosphere for complex issues to be unpacked and addressed. She gave me the space to process difficult moments in a way that I had never before, which was challenging but so relieving too. We spent several months discussing my history and how it impacts me - Jonell’s reflections have taught me so much about myself and the people in my life. Her insightful perspective on past and present behaviours has helped me to feel empowered in my relationships. Where appropriate, Jonell also offered resources and further reading to build my understanding of themes that were uncovered in our sessions.
I leave therapy with a new wellbeing ‘toolkit’ that I use every day, and also with the reassurance from Jonell that if I need to come back she will be there for me. I highly recommend Jonell’s therapy to anyone looking for transformative support with their mental health."
"Jonell’s lived experience of managing long term health conditions is an unique asset of her understanding and targeted therapy she delivers. When I began seeing Jonell I was in a bad place having lived through childhood trauma as well as managing disability & going through work related issues but she has helped me truly turn this around through understanding of myself and processing negative situations effectively. I cannot thank Jonell enough for her patience and unique empathy." |
"Being a young man, mental health is a very stigmatised and hard subject to approach. I can honestly say through the multiple aspects I had went through with yourself - trauma cbt, emdr and finally through to life coaching, that my life has significantly changed for the better. It helped me better understand myself, understand other people and process stressful and difficult situations, along with a healthy way of coping with them. I think that everyone in the world could benefit from therapy in one form or another be that a male, female or any gender you may identify as." |
"I sought Dr Smith's help during in a particular dark time in my life suffering from anxiety and depression; she was able very quickly to put me at ease and identify old underlying events at the root cause; during our cognitive behaviour therapy sessions and subsequently during our EMDR sessions, Dr Smith was able to take me on a journey through my very deep thoughts, memories and beliefs and provided me with self awareness and tools to heal and maintain my good mental health going forward. At the end of our therapy course, I was finally a happy and much more resilient person and I can truly say that the therapy with Dr Smith has been a life changing experience for me, benefitting every aspect of my life, my relationships, my fitness and my career too. It has been the best thing I have ever done for myself."
"Around about 18 months ago I was really beginning to struggle with my anxiety and well being which was really taking it’s toll on my mental health and a good friend and colleague noticed something wasn’t quite right with me and organically recommend I reach out to Dr Jonell Smith. I have a very stressful line of work and have been dealing with a lot of struggles in my personal life (past and present) and my usual coping mechanisms although still helpful wasn’t working the way it had previously been. Initially I had composed an email which lay there in my draft folder for a few days and after taking a few days of deliberating I realised I needed help and made contact (I genuinely felt a range of emotions building up to sending my initial email). For years I have always tried to be there to support others (friends, family, colleagues, charities) with their mental health but never realised how much I neglected my own and I genuinely had gotten stuck thinking my own issues where never as important as others. I knew/suspected I had high functioning anxiety (having read up on this I felt I displayed many of the symptoms) and also suffer from horrendous insomnia from a very early age and knew I needed to address as I was not coping as I once was able to. Dr Smith very quickly made me feel comfortable and completely put my mind to rest and I knew I had made the correct decision reaching out. Throughout our journey so far she has helped guide me through my current circumstances, previous experiences and helped make me understand my own self worth is important (have been guilty of being the giver and looking after others but never myself) when I never really valued this. Our sessions are an incredibly safe space and she really has helped guide me through some very difficult times and has shown me the healthy ways to move forward (catching myself if you will). I really, really do appreciate how difficult it can be to reach out for help no matter what you may be going through however I cannot say this enough that it has been one of the best decisions I have made reaching out." |
